Eugenie Bouchard dropped a three-set, rain-interrupted final to Elina Svitolina on Sunday at the BMW Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur, and the 22-year-old Canadian told reporters that she suffered from concussion-like symptoms during the match.

“I felt concussion-like symptoms and I was struggling with my energy levels towards the end,” said Bouchard according to the Malaysia Star.
“The medical staff also strongly advised me not to continue during the second set but there was no way I was going to retire in a final. I think I gave it my all and I fought well. Now I just need to go on to my next tournament and do well there.”
Bouchard, who suffered a concussion at last year’s U.S. Open during a freak locker room fall, has been playing well thus far in 2016, and mostly injury free. She has reached two finals and she has already won more matches this year (13) than she won all last year (12).
According to Yahoo Sports Canada’s Stephanie Myles, Bouchard also suffered from dizziness during her quarterfinal victory in Kuala Lumpur, and needed to take a medical timeout before finishing her victory.
The Canadian will next head to Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas Open which begins on Wednesday.
