With schools like Nick Bollettieri's tennis academy gracing the Sunshine State, Florida has long been a hot bed for American tennis.
The USTA has announced plans to up the ante, confirming this week that it has signed a letter of intent with Lake Land Co. to construct a "state of the art" tennis campus at Lake Nona, located in southeast Orlando.
Although no exact details about the facility have been released, former USTA board member Ron Bohrnstedt said that the original conception of the facility would have it sporting as many as 100 tennis courts, making it the largest facility in the country.
Lake Nona is near the Orlando International Airport and is a decidedly upscale neighborhood, with the median sales price for homes in the past year at $322,500, more than double the average price of a home in the rest of Orlando.
