Second Serve

By Nick Georgandis

Even if Juan Martin Del Potro had defeated Rafael Nadal in the finals at Indian Wells on Sunday, he still wouldn't have had the best week by an Argentine.

That honor went to the former archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, who became Pope Francis last Tuesday in Vatican City.
A devout Catholic, Del Potro was ecstatic when he heard the news.

"I'm very Catholic,so I like this decision," Del Potro said last week in California. "For me and for our country and for Argentinian people, it's so big. I think he deserves to be there, so it's very nice for us."

Del Potro is hopeful of meeting the new Pope when he plays in Rome at the Italian Open in May.
