Toni Nadal, uncle and original coach of Rafael Nadal is confident the 22-time Grand Slam champion will play Wimbledon—if treatment for his chronic left foot injury is successful.
Speaking at the Business Day organized by the Association of Entrepreneurs of Aranda and la Ribera and the City Council of Aranda de Duero, Toni Nadal said he trusts in the treatment Rafael Nadal is taking.
Nadal: Will Play Wimbledon if I Don't Need Injections
"I see Wimbledon very close because in two weeks it starts," Toni Nadal said in comments reported by EFE and as.com. "Let's see if my nephew is there or not. I trust that yes, I trust that the treatment goes well and my nephew will make an effort [to play Wimbledon] again."
Toni Nadal said his 36-year-old nephew, who owns a 30-3 record in 2022, knows he's playing dynamic tennis and is eager to continue this roll.
"He knows he's playing well, he's the winner of the last two Grand Slams," Toni Nadal told EFE. "If he hadn't had the injury he had at Indian Wells he probably would have won more tournaments, he's in a good moment and when things are good you have to take advantage of it."
Toni Nadal, who coaches Felix Auger-Aliassime, said Rafa Nadal's fighting spirit, in spite of the pain he's endured and all the titles he's won, continues to inspire.
"When I see that he has to overcome many difficulties and is still there despite having won many things and having been very successful, continue [to compete]," Toni Nadal said.
