Gael Monfils will miss Wimbledon in 2022.
The Frenchman, who underwent a small procedure to treat a calcaneal spur in his right heel before Roland-Garros, originally suffered the injury at Monte-Carlo this spring (where he did not play).
On Thursday the 35-year-old Frenchman announced that he will not be ready to participate at Wimbledon.
“I will now be able to increase gradually my training and spend more time on the court to get back in shape both from a physical and tennis point of view. Due to my recent return to training and because of the physical demands of grass court tennis / best of 5 matches, my team and I have taken the decision not to play Wimbledon this year,” Monfils said.
“I will focus instead on my preparation to be ready for the summer. I will return to competition in Hamburg followed by Kizbuhel before travelling to the US.”
The 23rd-ranked Frenchman is 12-6 on the season, and has not played since losing to Novak Djokovic in the second round at Madrid.
