Madison Keys is always a threat to go deep in Grand Slam draws. But at Wimbledon this year, the American won’t have that chance. She has withdrawn with an abdominal injury.
“This isn’t what I was hoping to say a few days before Wimbledon,” Keys posted on social media, “but unfortunately I have to withdraw due to an abdominal injury. I’m so disappointed, but my health comes first and my body needs time to get back to 100 percent.”
Keys is 19-9 lifetime at Wimbledon and has made the second week three times, including a quarterfinal appearance in 2015.
Stepping into the main draw as a result of Keys' withdrawal is American lucky loser Coco Vandweghe. Moving into the spot of No.33 seed is China's Zhang Shuai.
The American injured her ab during her loss to Jelena Ostapenko in Eastbourne earlier this week. She retired from the match down 6-3.
