The start of Carlos Alcaraz’s grass-court season has been delayed. The rapidly rising 19-year-old will skip Queen’s Club this year due to a “slight” elbow issue.

Queen’s Club – officially named the Cinch Championships – begins on Monday June 13.

“I was super excited to play at Queen’s Tennis, but a slight elbow issue means I can't!” Alcaraz posted on Twitter, adding: “I hope to be there in 2023... see u all in the UK in a few days!”

The Spaniard has played quite a bit of tennis in 2022, winning 32 of his 36 matches and claiming four titles – at Rio, Miami, Barcelona and Madrid. It isn’t clear if Alcaraz’s injury affected him at Roland-Garros, where he struggled in his second-round match against Albert Ramos-Vinolas, eventually winning in five sets, before losing in the quarterfinals to Alexander Zverev.

Based on Alcaraz’s statement, which indicated that he is headed to the UK soon, it appears he is still on track to make his second main draw appearance at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz lost in the second round on his main draw debut last year, 6-4, 6-1, 6-2, to Daniil Medvedev.
