Wawrinka Talks Vallverdu's Role on Coaching Team

Stan Wawrinka added Dani Vallverdu to his coaching team for grass-season hoping the benefits will help him beyond lawn play.

Vallverdu, who previously coached Andy Murray and Tomas Berdych, split with Grigor Dimitrov in May. Vallverdu joins Wawrinka's head coach, Magnus Norman, on the Swiss' team.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka said he's known Vallverdu for years and believes the work they do during grass-court season can aid him throughout the season.

"We decided to take Dani on for the grass now," Wawrinka said at Queen's Club. "There's a lot of things I can do better, but people can help me to do it. I know him since many years. He's a good friend also. He's a really good coach, he knows tennis really well.

"I take him during the grass also because it's different," Wawrinka said. "I stay in London normally for a month. So we can work, we can play matches, it's easy.

"I don't take someone just to work on my grass-court game. For me, it's an investment for my future also. When we work here for sure we try to improve on the grass but there's also many things after, for US Open, for the end of the year, for next year. So it's more general about my game."
