Thiem Dream: Partner Serena at Wimbledon

Dominic Thiem has a dream: Partner Serena Williams in mixed doubles at Wimbledon or the US Open.

The Roland Garros runner-up said he'd like to make amends for their French Open tiff partnering the 23-time Grand Slam champion in mixed doubles.

"Probably it was not Serena's mistake. I find her achievements unbelievable, sensational." Thiem told the media on Tuesday. "I would like to make amends with her in Wimbledon or US Open mixed doubles."

In case you missed it, Roland Garros runner-up Thiem was conducting his post-match press conference in the main interview room when Williams requested to do press immediately following her third-round upset loss to Sofia Kenin on the middle Saturday.

An angry Thiem called Williams "a bad personality" for displacing his press conference to hold her own. French publication L'Equipe called the tiff "a surrealistic scene."

"It's really rude," Williams said of the move.

"It's a joke I have to leave the room because she's coming," Thiem said according to L'Equipe.

Thiem said he now believes tournament officials were at fault.

"In retrospect, it was funny that such an organisational mistake happened at a Grand Slam tournament," Thiem said. "What I do not understand is that it blew up so much."

Williams partnered James Blake to the 2003 Hopman Cup championship then joined forces with Mardy Fish to defeat Novak Djokovic and Jelena Jankovic and win the 2005 Hopman Cup championship. Williams paired with Frances Tiafoe at Hopman Cup in January.

Even if Serena declines Thiem's dream, he won't have to look far to find a worthy partner. Kristina Mladenovic, Thiem's girlfriend, won her second Roland Garros doubles title on Sunday.
