The third-seeded Berdych slipped on the Stuttgart grass yet still struck back from his hands and knees, eventually winning this point against Feliciano Lopez.

Berdych made his point, but Lopez won the match.

The Spanish left-hander saved all nine break points he faced defeating Berdych, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4, advancing to the Mercedes Cup semifinals where he will play either wild card Tommy Haas or sixth-seeded Mischa Zverev.
