Williams was driving a 2010 Toyota Sequoia that cut in front of a car driven by Linda Barson, according to the police report published by CNN. Williams, who was driving at an estimated speed of 5 mph at the time of the accident, was not cited for a traffic violation, according to the report.

Barson, who was traveling west could not avoid crashing into Williams. Her husband, Jerome Barson, a passenger in the car, was injured in the accident, taken to the hospital and died two weeks later. Linda Barson was also taken to the hospital, but survived the crash.
"Mrs. Barson is suffering intense grief and doesn't know how she will go on," Michael Steinger, Linda Barson's attorney, told CNN. "Her husband of 35 years was struck by Venus Williams, who was at fault in a car accident, which ultimately resulted in Mr. Barson being hospitalized 14 days with multiple surgeries which resulted in his death."
Williams told police she did not see the Barsons' car when she crossed the intersection prior to the accident.
"Ms. Williams entered the intersection on a green light," Williams' attorney, Malcolm Cunningham, told CNN. "The police report estimates that Ms. Williams was traveling at 5 mph when Mrs. Barson crashed into her.
"Authorities did not issue Ms. Williams with any citations or traffic violations. This is an unfortunate accident and Venus expresses her deepest condolences to the family who lost a loved one."
