Rod Laver, a two-time winner of the Calendar Slam and the last man to achieve the feat in 1969, says that Novak Djokovic should not even be thinking about it.
"My advice to Novak before Wimbledon would be not to talk about the Grand Slam yet, or maybe even not to think about it,” Laver told Wimbledon.com. “Just play the tournament. If you say that you're going for the Grand Slam, you just put more pressure on yourself. And that pressure can build and build.”
Laver, who saw Djokovic pass him on the all-time major list when the Serb won his 12th major title at Roland Garros just over two weeks ago, says he’s rooting for Djokovic and would not be surprised if the difficult-to-achieve feat off.
"If it does happen, I would be very happy to shake his hand and congratulate him,” Laver said. “It would be a great thing for him to do. It's terrific that he's been playing so well. He's shown his ability and his character. That's why I think he's got a good chance to do the Grand Slam."
Djokovic, a three-time Wimbledon champion is already in London preparing to further his historical run. He is clearly not feeling the pressure—yet. Check out the Serb having some fun after a practice session at Wimbledon earlier this week below:
