Keeping with the theme started by Sabine Lisicki, who broke the record for aces in a single WTA match with 27 in her win over Belinda Bencic this week in Birmingham, Ivo Karlovic claimed the record for aces in a three-set match with 45 in his three-set victory over Tomas Berdych.

"I just knew there was a lot of aces, but I didn't know it was that many," Karlovic said. ''The record will always be there, it will always be written. I'm extremely happy.''

Karlovic will next square off against Roger Federer in the Halle semis. The Croatian once hit 78 aces in a best-of-five match, but that numbers pales in comparison thanks to John Isner’s record-breaking 113, which the American hit in his Wimbledon marathon with Nicolas Mahut (Mahut hit 103 in that match).
