Nicolas Almagro has withdrawn from Wimbledon because of a lingering foot injury, the tournament announced Thursday. The 28-year-old Spaniard was due to be the No. 25 seed at the tournament.
This is the second Grand Slam event Almagro has been forced to withdraw from before striking a ball this season. He was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open in January due to a shoulder injury. At Roland Garros, he was forced to retire in the first round against American Jack Sock with the same foot injury.
Almagro's career record on the lawns of the All England Club stands at just 9-9, having made the third round each of the last three years. It is the only Grand Slam event where he has not made the second week.
Canadian Vasek Pospisil moves into a seeded position at No. 32 as a result of Almagro's withdrawal.
