Rafael Nadal is no doubt breathing a sigh of relief today after Paris police recovered the $374,000 watch he reported missing from his hotel room the moring after capturing the French Open title.
A 38-year-old hotel barman allegedly stole the watch from the suite Rafa shared with his parents while playing at Roland Garros. When police tracked the employee down by tracing his hotel access badge, the thief promptly confessed to the crime and led officers to a railway track near his home where the watch was hidden.
"The French police have done good work," Nadal said. "I cannot say anything wrong about the hotel. They were great for me every time I was there, for the last, I think, eight years. I'll be back in the hotel next year."
This is not Nadal’s first luxury watch debacle. A $525,000 watch was stolen from his locker during the Rogers Cup in 2010.
