Tournament organizers for the newly combined ATP/WTA 500 Mubadala Citi DC Open released an updated player field featuring several main draw wildcards for big-name players, including two former Grand Slam champions.
In the women’s draw, 2020 Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin and 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu were given wildcards into next week’s event. Also included as wildcard recipients are former World No. 3 Elina Svitolina, 2022 Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins, and 17-year-old and recent Wimbledon girl’s singles title winner Clervie Ngounoue.
For the men’s draw, wildcard recipients include two-time major finalist Kevin Anderson, 2017 US Open finalist and D.C winner Kei Nishikori, 2016 D.C. champion Gael Monfils, and rising college player Andrew Fenty.
The qualifying draw will also feature 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez of Canada.
“We have an incredible player field committed to compete in this year’s Mubadala Citi DC Open, the first and only combined ATP and WTA 500 level tournament in the world,” said Mark Ein, Mubadala Citi DC Open Chairman. “Awarding two Grand Slam champions and three Grand Slam finalists wild cards into our event only strengthens an already incredibly deep player field.
"With over 92 percent of our tickets sold and this unbelievable player field and world-class food and beverage experiences throughout the site, we anticipate the tournament will sell out for a third year in a row.”
Last year’s men’s champion Nick Kyrgios and recent Wimbledon semifinalist Daniil Medvedev both withdrew from the tournament due to injury. Taylor Fritz is the top men’s seed this year while Jessica Pegula is the top women’s seed.
Main draw play begins on Monday, July 31.
