Frances Tiafoe hasn’t been settled since he parted ways with longtime coach Wayne Ferriera at the end of last season, but the World No.29 appears to be heading in that direction as a new partnership with David Witt, the former coach of Venus Williams and Jessica Pegula, has begun.

Witt is in Atlanta with Tiafoe, who talked about the partnership after his 6-4 3-6 6-3 win over Aslan Karatsev on Thursday.

“It’s been good,” Tiafoe said. “It’s been about a week and a half.

“He’s super chill just like me and he’s obviously done a great job with Venus and he did a great job Pegula. It’s good to have him on the team, we’ve been friends for a long time.

“I just wanted a fresh start with someone and he was the perfect guy.”

Tiafoe started the year working with Diego Moyano, who formerly worked with Coco Gauff.

The pair split in early April.

It hasn’t been an easy season for Tiafoe, who sports a 16-15 overall record, but he did show signs of life at Wimbledon where he reached the third round and took eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz to five sets.

The American will face Yoshihito Nishioka in the quarterfinals at Miami.
