Just two weeks ago Bernarda Pera was buried at 130 in the rankings, but after becoming the fourth WTA player to win a title from qualifying in Budapest, and following up that maiden title with a triumph in Hamburg, where she defeated Anett Kontaveit in the final, Pera is sitting pretty at a career-high 54 in Monday’s WTA rankings.
That’s a two-week rise of 76 spots – Pera has not dropped a set in her white-hot run on the red clay of Europe.
Pera is the first American to win multiple clay-court titles in the same season since 2013.
Begu up to 33, Bronzetti +13
Also rising this week is Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti, who jumps from 78 to 65 after reaching her first career final in Palermo. Bronzetti fell in the final to Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu, who jumps 12 spots from 45 to 33.
Per the WTA, there have been some massive ranking rises inside the Top 100 in 2022, with the biggest made by Daria Saville +333 (from No.421 to No.88), Tatjana Maria +186 (from No.284 to No.98), Martina Trevisan +88 (from No.112 to No.24) and Bronzetti +83 (from No.148 to No.65).
Iga Holding Down the Top Spot, Parry Pushing Higher
Monday marks the 17th consecutive week at No.1 for Poland’s Iga Swiatek. The Pole leads No.2 Anett Kontaveit by 3860 points on Monday’s rankings.
Swiatek, 46-4 on the season, is taking her place in the BNP Paribas Open draw in Warsaw this week, where she will play Magdalena Frech in the first round.
The steady rise of Frenchwoman Diane Parry continues this week as well. The Palermo quarterfinalist jumped 10 spots in this week’s rankings, from 86 to 76, hitting a new career-high. Parry started the season at 141.
