Second Serve

By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Monday July 19, 2021

Here is your monthly reminder that Benoit Paire is one of the most ridiculously gifted players on the ATP Tour. We’d say more but this video of the Frenchman executing a mind-blowing backspinny drop shot pretty much says it all.

Even more remarkable is the fact that Paire, currently ranked 49, has now won matches in consecutive weeks for the first time all season. The 32-year-old Avignon, France native has had the toughest of times on tour this year (he improved to a dismal 5-18 today), but this masterful shot reminds us all of his magic hands and his creative style.

Paire defeated Jozef Kovalik 6-3, 7-6(2) at the Swiss Open Gstaad on Monday, and has now won three of four matches after reaching the quarterfinals at Hamburg last week.

Let’s hope he keeps it up. In case he doesn’t, revert back to this bit of mastery, another magical Paire moment from 2015 in Paris (stick around for the last replay of this if you really want to be blown away).
