Two-time Olympic Gold medalist Andy Murray has been forced out of the singles draw at Tokyo due to a quadriceps strain. Murray, who was slated to face Felix Auger-Aliassime today, will be replaced by Max Purcell of Australia.

He remains in the doubles draw.

In a statement released by Team GB, Murray said:

“I am really disappointed at having to withdraw but the medical staff have advised me against playing in both events, so I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the singles and focus on playing doubles with Joe [Salisbury].”

Murray and Salisbury upset second-seeded Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in first-round action on Saturday in Tokyo.

Marton Fucsovics of Hungary also withdrew, citing a shoulder injury, and was replaced by another Australian, Luke Saville.
