Elite players learn from losses.

Eight Grand Slam final defeats gave Andy Murray an education in confronting Grand Slam pressure and he applied it capturing his second Wimbledon crown.

Reflecting on the secrets to his success at SW19, Murray offers three primary reasons in this video interview posted today by Head, his racquet sponsor.

1. Applying the experiences gained from 10 prior Grand Slam finals.

2. Determination to grind away consistently achieving incremental goals.

3. Reuniting with coach Ivan Lendl, with whom Murray has played some of his most dynamic tennis.

In the Open Era, only Lendl (11 Grand Slam final losses) and Roger Federer (10 Grand Slam final defeats) have lost more major finals that Murray. But the three-time Grand Slam champion says painful losses served as major motivation to improve.

"I lost a lot of Grand Slam finals," Murray says. "But I didn't sort of let that affect me. I kept trying to use those matches as motivation to get better...

"Everything's always been a steady progression. I've never made huge leaps. It's always just consistently trying to get a little bit better and try to keep it going. That's the goal now."
