Top-seeded Serena Williams has pulled out of next week’s Rogers Cup in Montreal, citing shoulder inflammation. The three-time Rogers Cup champion has still never won the tournament in Montreal.

Angelique Kerber, who pulled out of this week’s Swedish Open in Bastad, will take over as top seed.
