Rafael Nadal, who withdrew from the French Open due to a left wrist injury, says he has no fear of playing Rio.
“It has not entered my head not to be in Rio,” Nadal told the media in Mallorca. "I was in Rio in February and I led a perfectly normal life."
The question is: Will the 2008 gold medal champion be healthy enough to contest what could be his last Olympic Games?
If Nadal's recovery continues, he hopes to play the Rogers Cup in Toronto at the end of the month in preparation for Rio.
“We are all working towards getting him ready for the Olympics,” Spanish Tennis Federation doctor Angel Ruiz-Cotorro told AS newspaper in comments published by Reuters.
“I see him strong. He is following the normal recovery schedule and meeting the timeframe we set. He is working very well and the sooner he can recover and start to compete the better it will be for him to get into a rhythm. But we have to be careful. He is strengthening the wrist and that is the most complicated aspect and where we have to be more careful.”
