Boris Becker Names Federer GOAT
The world No. 1 says winning the U.S. Open to cap her first calendar Grand Slam "doesn't feel as impossible to achieve."
"I feel it's different now because I've won four in a row," Williams said in this video interview at the Collector Swedish Open. "I don't know. It doesn't feel as impossible to achieve or as difficult, but I don't feel the pressure to do it. I feel easy going into it. Really, more than anything, I want to defend my [U.S. Open] title because I won there last year. I definitely want to try to win there again."
Williams said she "embraces" her position as a role model.
"I definitely see myself as a role model. I like that and I kind of embrace that," Williams said. "There's so many people who have the dream of being a tennis player or being a doctor, just doing something and being successful. For me, it's important to give hope to anyone that if I can do it, then you can definitely do it. For me, that's what it's all about."
The 21-time Grand Slam champion can equal
Steffi Graf's
22 career majors by winning Flushing Meadows. Williams said she's already looking ahead days after winning Wimbledon.
"I'm always looking forward to the next goal," Serena said. "It's always what I do and what I want to do. I never stay too long in the past. I always look forward."
