Nick Kyrgios couldn’t help Team Australia dig out of an early hole against Kazakhstan on Day 1 of his side’s Davis Cup quarterfinal with the Kazakhs, and his four-set loss to Aleksandr Nedovyesov did more than push the Aussies to the brink of elimination on Friday in Darwin—it also pushed Kyrgios to the brink of frustration and beyond:

“It wasn’t great," the 20-year-old Kyrgios told Daviscup.com of his experience. The Aussie now owns a 3-4 singles record at Davis Cup. "It was tough out there. Tough conditions. All credit to him. He served well and I wasn’t playing my best tennis out there.

He added: "Personally I don’t think I was mentally ready. Physically I was okay, my body was good, but mentally I almost felt a bit drained out there. It was hard to focus, it was hard to really dig deep, push myself. There was lots going on and the more I experience it the better I will get at it.”

The double racquet smash wasn’t all the theatrics that Kyrgios offered up. He also smashed a ball into the crowd and was overheard saying “I don’t want to be here.”

Aussie media was quick to capture and highlight Kyrgios’s low points, as is evidenced by the two videos below:
