Power Player: Federer Named Most Marketable Sports Star

Roger Federer celebrates his 34th birthday next month. He hit a milestone this week.

The world No. 2 was named a global No. 1. Federer has been named the world's most marketable sports star in a study conducted by the London School of Marketing.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion leads a Top 20 list of famed athletes including Tiger Woods, Lebron James, Rory McIlroy, Lionel Messi and Usain Bolt.

Seven tennis players made the Top 20 list of most marketable athletes. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray, Kei Nishikori and Serena Williams join Federer on the list.

"Despite having passed their peak physically, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are kings,” said Jacques de Cock, spokesperson for the London School of Marketing.

The Top 20 list is here:

2. Tiger Woods (Golf)
3. Phil Mickelson (Golf)
4. LeBron James (Basketball)

The study was issued about a month after Federer and Sharapova retained their titles as top tennis earners among men and women on the Forbes Magazine annual list of the World's Highest-Paid Athletes.

The Swiss master is the world's highest-paid tennis player, earning $67 million over the last year. Federer cashed in $9 million in prize money and $58 million in endorsements, which includes his deals with blue chip sponsors Nike, Wilson, Rolex, Mercedes-Benz and Credit Suisse, to name a few.

Roger ranks No. 5 overall among the world's highest-paid athletes on the Forbes list. Boxer Floyd Mayweather tops the list, earning a staggering $300 million last year.

Federer has become a funny and familiar commercial presence for several of his sponsors. Here's a few of our favorite Federer commercials, in no particular order.
