Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

In a promotional outing for Lindt Chocolate, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and Olympic Gold medalist Lindsey Vonn headed to the top of Europe on the Jungrau Railway to have a good old-fashioned tennis knock on top of the Aletsch Glacier in the Alps, overlooking the Sphinx.

Grass court tennis this was not (they were 3454 metres above sea level), but Federer was still in good form, hammering down a big serve to secure a tidy victory over his good friend and Skype-mate from America.

The prize in the winner-take-all battle? A tad less than the $3 million on offer for this year's men's singles winner at Wimbledon: A single Lindt chocolate.

At the conclusion of the match Vonn tosses her racquet and says to Federer: “I thought you were a gentleman?” His reply? “No, I’m the winner.”

At least Roger was kind enough to open his backpack full of truffles to share with Vonn. An outing in the Swiss Alps with an endless supply of chocolate? Sounds like a win-win for all…
