(June 29, 2012) -- After reaching the finals of the clay court event in Brussels, things continue to look up for Romania's Simona Halep as she recently qualified for the Summer Games. Get to know more about this exciting young player on the WTA.

1. Romania's Own: Halep was born in Constanta, Romania on September 27, 1991. Halep still resides in her hometown.

2. Early Steps: Halep started playing tennis at age four to emulate her older brother Nicolae who is six years older than her.

3. Notable Moments on Court: Halep won the Junior Girls title at Roland Garros back in 2008 and won three ITF titles in the same year. Halep reached the third round of Melbourne in 2011, her best result at a Grand Slam. She upset Li Na in the first round of the U.S. Open also in 2011.

4. Clay Court Triumphs: In 2012, Halep took out Jelena Jankovic and Dominika Cibulkova en route to reaching the finals of Brussels where she lost to champion Agnieszka Radwanska. Halep also this year reached the finals of Fes and the quarters in Barcelona.

5. Tennis Idol: Simona's biggest tennis inspiration is Justine Henin and she recently told WTA.com she'd love to be able to hit Henin's classic one-handed backhand even though she hits hers with two hands. Her favorite male player in Roger Federer.

6. Off the Court: Halep used to play handball when she was younger but doesn't anymore. Her other interests are music and going to the movies.

7. Olympics Bound: Halep was selected as member of Romania's Olympic team to compete in tennis later this summer in London.

8. Favorite Food: Pasta is her favorite dish while orange juice is her favorite drink.

9. Favorite City: Paris. Mostly due to her winning the girls title at Roland Garros.

10. Quote to Remember: When asked by WTA.com what she likes most about being a pro tennis player, Halep said, "I love the sport itself and the competition."
