Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

From Roger Federer's postmatch interview following his Wimbledon loss to Tomas Berdych:

“But I've been feeling bad [due to leg and back stiffness] for the last two, three matches now. It's just not good and healthy to play under these kind of conditions. So if there's anything good about this it's I'm going to get some rest.”

Roger says himself that it's not good to play in the conditions he was in, yet he played? No wonder he was almost upset in the first round. If Rafael Nadal was man enough to sit out last year because of his knees and heal up, and you can't? Doesn't make sense, this might be why Rafa is number one now Roger, and you're number three, you need to know your body's limits and not push them, but you did.

“[The] quarters is a decent result. It's not something I'm used to doing, losing in quarter-finals, because it's not something I've done in the last six years.”

Yeah of course it's a decent result, but myself along with the rest of the world know you're better than what you showed at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. You were not playing at 100% yet you forced yourself to play. If you can't play at 100% then why even try to play? You lost to someone outside the top 10 for the first time in god knows how long, and now for the first time in nearly a decade you're number three.

See what being stubborn does to you? Don't be like Roger. Know when you can't play.

Had you rested up until the Rogers Cup in Canada you could easily win that, then Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris...all ATP 1000 level events..and all on your beloved hardcourt surface!

Don't let me forget the US Open!

Glad to hear you're taking a 2 week break, better make it 3 though Roger.
