Second Serve

Did you know that only three players have won ATP titles by winning each of their matches from a set down in Open Era history?

And two of them have achieved the feat in the last two seasons.

The first was the great Arthur Ashe, who won the 1975 WCT Finals in that fashion.

49 years later it happened again as Alexander Bublik took the Montpellier title winning all matches from a set down.

Earlier this season Frenchman Alexandre Muller became the third when he won Hong Kong by winning from a set down each round.

There are differences between the three achievements. Ashe won only three matches at the WCT Finals in 1975, but they were best-of-five (he never lost the first two sets).

Bublik won four matches in Montpellier in 2024; Muller won five matches in Hong Kong and is therefore the only player to have won five matches after losing the first set en route to a title.
