Russia is banned from playing international team competitions including United Cup, Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup over condemnation of Russia's invasion of neighboring Ukraine.
"I would definitely prefer to play United Cup," Medvedev told the media in Adelaide. "I like to play in ATP Cup. United Cup seems interesting. We would be the only team with four players of top 10, so yeah, we would definitely be good favorites, I think, there.
"But it is what it is, and I'm happy to be here in Adelaide playing in this tournament."
Medvedev famously denied Novak Djokovic's bid to complete the calendar Grand Slam with his 2021 US Open triumph. The pair could meet in the Adelaide semifinals.
Nine-time Australian Open champion Djokovic supports all Russians and Belarusians, who were banned by Wimbledon last year, playing all events this year.
"Of course, of course, absolutely," Djokovic told the media in Adelaide. "I hope he and other Russian, Belarusian players will be able to play everywhere."
