After an earth-shattering season that saw her rise back inside the WTA’s top five and reach her first major semifinal, France’s Caroline Garcia has her sights set on even bigger things.
“Obviously one of the goal of this year or next year or couple of years coming is to try to go all the way and win a slam,” she told the media on Saturday ahead of her first-round clash with Canadian Qualifier Katherine Sebov. “We'll see if I'm capable of doing it, but it's a great challenge I want to face.”
Garcia, 29, and ranked fourth, has only reached the round of 16 once at the Australian Open (in 2018), and has never progressed further.
She is focused on taking things one match at a time in Melbourne.
“I have to start the tournament with the first-round win,” she said. “That's the most important focus right now, is to prepare for the first match coming up and see what I can do about it, how I can improve to go as far as I can.”
