Eugenie Bouchard appreciates a little tough love from a coach. And that is what she got on Thursday in Auckland when Michael Joyce told her that her attitude was “F***’ed up” after the second set of her 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4 win over Bibiane Schoofs at the ASB Classic.
After the match Bouchard was quick to admit that Joyce was right—she needs to be better in that department.
"I didn't have the best attitude for sure… the coach is pissed about that," said Bouchard, according to Michael Burgess of the New Zealand Herald. "That is something I am going to work on going forward."
“At times during the match it was not good,” Bouchard said on court after her win with a smile. “I got too emotional but I’m glad I god myself together in the third and kept fighting no matter what.”
Bouchard will continue the fight on Friday in Auckland when she meets Julie Goerges for a spot in the semifinals. The pair have split their two previous meetings with Goerges taking their lone 2018 meeting in three sets at Luxembourg.
The Canadian, who last played at Luxembourg in 2018, is bidding to reach semifinals at consecutive events for the first time since 2014.
