Karolina Pliskova is placing a premium on winning Grand Slams rather than regaining the world No. 1 ranking.

The 2016 US Open finalist said regaining the top spot is not her top priority.

"Since I was there I don’t fight for this anymore," Pliskova told the media in Brisbane. "I have different goals—like the titles in tournaments and Grand Slams—and ranking for me doesn’t matter that much any more.”

The fourth-ranked Pliskova will open defense of her Brisbane title against American CiCi Bellis.

Pliskova poached Fed Cup teammate Barbora Strycova's coach, Tomas Krupa, last season—a move Strycova made clear she didn't appreciate. Pliskova said she pursued Krupa in part because he was Czech.

“So that’s why I just went for it even though he was still, at that time, coach of Barbora,” Pliskova told the Brisbane International website. “It’s always a little bit more difficult to search in the world for a coach."

Pliskova plans to stick with Krupa for the foreseeable future and said she has not retained ESPN analyst Rennae Stubbs, who worked with Pliskova at the season-ending WTA Finals.

"Now I have Tomas now so this is staying right now," Pliskova said. "I'm not going to change my situation with coaches right now. At least for a little bit, I'll try to stay with one coach.

"With Rennae we stayed friends. I'm in touch with her, but that's it so far. I'm not going to try to add anyone else to my team."
