Rafael Nadal got some good news on Wednesday. His injury is nothing serious and he will not have to alter his schedule for the next few months.
Nadal underwent an MRI in Melbourne and it has been revealed that he has a Grade 1 muscle strain in his iliopsoas, an area close to the adductor and hip. His plan is to rest and undergo anti inflammatory therapy, before starting his rehab in a few weeks.
The 16-time major champion still plans to play Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami before beginning the clay season.
Nadal’s loss to Marin Cilic by retirement in Tuesday’s quarterfinal marked just the second time he had to retire in a Grand Slam. He had not done so since the 2010 Australian Open, when he bowed out to Andy Murray, also in the quarterfinals.
