Timea Babos ended a 16-match losing streak against the Top 10 on Day 1 of the Australian Open with a 7-6(4), 6-2 win over American CoCo Vandeweghe.
"That today I could manage it and to win it--it's amazing," said Babos on court after the win.
It was a showstopping performance for the former World No.25 and current World No.7 doubles player, but Vandeweghe got most of the post-match attention for receiving a code violation when she refused to play because of a lack of bananas on court.
Vandeweghe would later receive a point penalty on her next code violation, which forced her to start the final game of the match down 0-15.
Babos advances to face Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain in the second round. For those wondering why Vandeweghe got her second code violation, we’ll let you do see for yourself below.
