The 48th-ranked Osaka aims to win a title and crack the Top 20.
"Goals for the season, I wanted to get into the top 20, win a tournament, and then get to the quarterfinals of a slam," Osaka said.
For the second straight Slam, Osaka ran into a tough Top 10 opponent. She squandered a 5-1 lead in the deciding set of her US Open third-round loss to ninth-ranked Madison Keys last September.
Still, Osaka, an aggressive baseliner who can bang the ball of both wings, said she will take positives from this loss.
"Well, I wanted to do well here," Osaka said. "Technically, I did do well. Like, I don't think I played a bad match. I have a lot to learn from it, but I wanted to get to the quarterfinals, which is kind of like, eh. But whatever.
"But, like, going forward, I know that I can play well, because usually after, like, a loss I play better, because I learned from it."
