A pair of highly touted teenagers sprinted out of the blocks in their first match of 2016 on Monday, as Hyeon Chung and Borna Coric both notched wins at Brisbane and Chennai, respectively.

Chung, currently at 51 in the ATP rankings, defused hard-serving Samuel Groth of Australia, 7-6(8), 6-4. Chung broke Groth’s serve three times on 11 opportunities to set up a second-round encounter with Marin Cilic.

The 19-year-old South Korean went 12-10 on the ATP Tour last season and reached his first quarterfinal at Shenzhen.

Coric, who led all teenagers with 26 tour-level victories in 2015, defeated Spain's Marcel Granollers, 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4. The 19-year-old Croatian will face either Rajeev Ram or Austin Krajicek in the second round at Chennai. Coric reached two ATP semifinals last season (Dubai and Nice) and notched two Top-20 wins.

Coric, currently 44 in the world, says told reporters in Chennai that he's gunning for No. 1. “I’m dreaming about being No. 1 in the world,” said Coric. “That’s my goal… I just need to keep working hard for it and maybe one day it’s going to happen."
