Novak Djokovic came out like gangbusters to win the first set of Sunday’s Australian Open final over Andy Murray, 6-1. The Serb was close to taking a love set but Murray rallied from 0-5, 15-30 to hold.

Note: Murray is 0-17 lifetime when losing the first set to Djokovic, according to ESPN.

Though he was given the runaround from the Serb, Murray did appear to be getting his legs beneath him by the end of the set. He struck the shot of the match, a running forehand pass, to get the crowd cheering (see video above).

Djokovic is bidding to win a record sixth Australian Open title, which would tie him for the most all-time. He’s also bidding to tie Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg on the all-time major titles list with 11.

By the looks of things, he’s well on his way. Will Murray rise up and make this a competitive match? Stay tuned…
