Williams discusses this and more with her fellow American in this candid interview (see above), admitting that she started thinking about winning her 19th Slam while accepting the trophy for her 18th. That’s the kind of forward thinking that has made Williams the best of her generation and maybe the best of all-time.

Whether she makes it to 22 Slams or not, Williams wasn’t shy about telling Evert that she’s got her sights set. “It’s no secret,” she says. “Obviously I’m going for the gusto. I’m going to try to catch up with Steffi.”
