Young Aussies were all the rage on Day 1, and for a while, Thanasi Kokkinakis took the spotlight away from his compatriot Nick Kyrgios as he saved four match points to get by Ernests Gulbis in a five-set thriller.

But Kyrgios, never the type to be outdone, even by one of his close mates, made sure that the fans who chose to watch his five-set match with Federico Delbonis did not go home disappointed.
Watch as Kyrgios executes this neat little ‘tweener against the Argentine before burning some rubber and hitting a backhand winner to win the point.
Kyrgios would go on to win, 7-6(2) 3-6 6-3 6-7(5) 6-3, to set up a second-round encounter with bomb-serving Ivo Karlovic.
“Yeah, he's obviously one of the best servers on tour,” Kyrgios said. “Has been for a long, long time. With age he seems to be hitting spots better. I'm not going to think too much about that now. I'm obviously going to get some food and get some rest and do everything I can tomorrow.”
