Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Roger Federer had a difficult time getting past Aussie John Millman in Brisbane on Thursday, needing three sets and a whole lot of perspiration to win his 997th career match.

But Federer was all ease and grace on this perfectly placed backhand in the third set. Watch how Federer opens up the opportunity with a tricky lob that Millman can’t put away, then scrambles to pop this nifty flick backhand for a clean winner. Of particular note is the velocity with which the ball travels after it clips the baseline. Federer put some serious head on that ball, flattening it out for a hot shot winner.
