With plans to be released around January 21, 2011, Wilson unleashes the largest lineup of new racquets so far this year. While some of the racquets are updates of player favorites, there are some all new additions to the line, including a frame much closer to what Justine Henin actually plays than the BLX Tour. While Wilson has not developed a new technology for their racquets for 2011, they are planning on releasing a large number of new strings including everything from a string specially packaged with a dampened and cushioned grip for players with tennis elbow to a geometric polyester based string meant to rival the hugely successful Babolat RPM Blast.
Without a doubt, the most heavily anticipated new Wilson racquets are the new BLX Blade line, which will replace the previous K-Blade series and also will add a new BLX Blade Lite to the mix. While the Blade Team will be in the hands of the Williams sisters, the flashy new Blade 98 Pink is currently in the hands of Melanie Oudin. Don't worry guys, the Blade 98 is still available in a more toned down black and gold scheme. While a few of the original BLX models are already being replaced, Wilson has made sure to cover every possible player ability and style. With the new line up along with the models remaining from last year, the BLX line will include a staggering 25 racquets.
As most know by now, the BLX racquets take the popular technologies from previous years, and utilizes natural materials to improve what players consider feel. After surveying players last year, Wilson found out that most players talk about one thing when it comes to choosing a new racquet. That one thing is pure and simple "feel". The challenging part about setting out to design a racquet that "feels" right to the player, is that each player wants something different. Some players want a racquet that feels ultra lightweight that they can quickly get around, while others want the feel that comes from the "plow through" experience when a heavier frame moves through the ball.
After extensive testing, Wilson found that the best way to improve the sense of feel in their line, was to add fibers made from natural basalt by integrating them within the graphite of the frame. This material acts as a sort of tuning device as it effectively dampens vibration through the racquet. We've all heard the marketing from Wilson behind the newest technology, but what we really care about is exactly what new racquets are coming out. So without further ado, a list of the new models, and in the upcoming days each frame will be featured with further details.
