There's a silver lining in the injury cloud over Paula Badosa.
Former world No. 2 Badosa said the injury she suffered that forced her to retire from her Huan Hin second-rounder vs. Diana Shnaider is not related to the back injury that sidelined her for much of the second half of the 2023 season.

"Good news all in all, I haven't relapsed the injury fortunately," Badosa posted on social media. "I'm going to work with my team now 24/7 to get the inflammation down as soon as possible so I can compete soon. Thanks for all the messages 🫶 We are still struggling…">
Badosa injured her back in the Rome quarterfinals last season. She played only two more matches the rest of the season.
