Italian legend Nicola Pietrangeli thinks Matteo Berrettini needs to focus more on tennis.

Speaking as he was being honored with a Sports Lifetime Achievement Award by the foreign press, the two-time Roland-Garros champion said that Berrettini is spending too much time making money off the court.

"It seems to me that he is dedicating himself more to advertising than to tennis,” he said, per La Repubblica. “He is a good boy, but he is a bit like [1976 Roland-Garros champion Adriano] Panatta was: fantastic from the waist up, but the legs ...". Pietrangeli, who said that Jannik Sinner is currently the best Italian tennis player, while Musetti has the best game in the group, added: "Berrettini thinks too much about advertising.”

Upon hearing of his comments, Nick Kyrgios said the following about the subject, alluding to the fact that Berrettini is likely making a lot more money than Sinner “off the court.” :

“But isn’t it his choice to prioritise? I can assure you this, he is making more bank than sinner off the court and for some of us, money is important.”
