Watch: Fognini Loses Racquet, Wins Set Point
No racquet, no problem for
Fabio Fognini.
Watch the theatrical Italian go from disarmed to delightfully inventive as he loses the grip on his stick during serve, catches the racquet on the rebound then recovers to win the point.
Becker:
Two Better Than Federer
Fognini lost his grip, but pulled off this miraculous recovery to win set point.
That inspired improvisation helped Fognini rally for a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2 triumph over home favorite
Thomaz Bellucci
in the opening round of the Rio Open.
"The replay of that point was incredible. I don’t know how,” Fognini said afterward. "It’s really humid. I was just serving on set point and the racquet went flying. I think it was lucky, also. That was something incredible."
That wasn't the only jaw-dropping shot from the creative force in camouflage clothes.
Fognini produced this festive all-court spectacle in the opening set.
