Stan Wawrinka has withdrawn from next week’s ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam due to a knee injury. According to reports, Wawrinka’s injury is the same one that troubled him at the Australian Open. Here’s what the tournament director Richard Krajicek had to say about it:
"Stan called me this afternoon to share the bad news. Test results today showed that he is not able to play matches as a result of his knee. The medical advice came as a complete and unpleasant surprise. Not just for us, but for him as well."
Due to Wawrinka’s absence, Rafael Nadal becomes the new top seed in Rotterdam. The World No. 6 is followed by Marin Cilic and Dominic Thiem, who are also playing in Rotterdam. The draw is actually pretty stocked with top players. Among them are Grigor Dimitrov, Richard Gasquet, Alexander Zverev, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Tomas Berdych, Lucas Pouille, Roberto Bautista Agut and last year’s surprising champion Martin Klizan.
