Second Serve

Not only was this subtle yet oh so divine half volley from Stan Wawrinka during today’s title victory over Tomas Berdych one of the shots of the week in tennis, it was set up by the Wawrinka one-handed backhand, which even makes it better!

Rotterdam: Stanimal Steps up in Rotterdam

Basically, if you’re a mere mortal tennis fan and you watch this video, your jaw will drop the second Wawrinka hits the backhand. When he shows the presence of mind and the skill to then approach the net and clean up the half volley your tongue begins to slowly droop towards the pavement.

Beatiful stuff from Wawrinka, who now leads the ATP in wins with a 14-1 record for 2015.

And if you haven’t seen enough handy net work then check out this casual yet ridiculously difficult backhand volley from Milos Raonic. Raonic is known for his serve and forehand-centric game, but he can clean up nicely around the net, too.

Watch as the backhand gets tattooed by Wawrinka, leaving Raonic little choice but to write his last will and testament while preparing to volley. And, presto—winner!

Which shot did you like better? Leave it in the comments, we’d like to know…
