Ranking Report: ATP Breakthroughs

With the women showing their colors in Fed Cup last week, this week's Rankings Report is dedicated to the men, as the ATP World Tour held three tournaments last week.

After becoming the oldest first-time title-winner on the ATP Tour, and first from his home country of the Dominican Republic, Victor Estrella Burgos is the banner man in the ATP rankings this week. Burgos edged top-seed Feliciano Lopez to claim the title at the first-ever ATP tournament in Quito, Ecuador on Sunday and rises 21 spots in the world rankings to No. 52.

Also making a push in the ATP rankings was Marcos Baghdatis, who moved up 10 spots to No. 57 after reaching the semifinals in Zagreb. He lost there to the eventual champion, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, and the Spaniard moves up six spots to No. 27 on the back of his first title in 2015. Igor Sijsling was another beneficiary of a strong run in Zagreb; after reaching the quarterfinals, he moved up 11 spots to No. 89.

Fresh off of the let heard 'round the world, and praise from Rafael Nadal, American Tim Smyczek had a little good karma come his way in Dallas last week. The American picked up a Challenger title when Rajeev Ram retired in the championship match, after Smyczek himself was pushed to three sets in each of his first two matches. The American moves up into the top 100 this week, and is up 23 spots to No. 80. He's just off his career high of No. 73, which he set in 2013.
