Party Time in Antwerp

There was plenty of dazzle at the Diamond Games player party in Antwerp.

There was cause for celebration: The Diamond Games returned to the WTA Schedule for the first time since 2008 with former world No. 1 Kim Clijsters serving as tournament director.

Fresh off a pair of marathon wins over Samantha Stosur and Jarmila Gajdosova to lift Germany into the Fed Cup semifinals, Andrea Petkovic was all smiles in Belgium.

The third-seeded Petkovic will face Belgian wild card Alison Van Uytvanck in the second round.

German No. 1 Angelique Kerber gave us the thumbs-up as she headed into the party.

The No. 2 seed plays qualifier Francesca Schiavone, who has won two of three prior meetings with Kerber.

Angelique Kerber Kristina Mladenovic, who partnered Caroline Garcia to clinch France's comeback Fed Cup victory over host Italy in Genoa on Sunday, reunited with Fed Cup teammate Alize Cornet for photos with fans and a few selfies.

World No. 37 Belinda Bencic, accompanied by father Ivan, was in good spirits at the party. The Swiss teenager faces the 19th-ranked Cornet in a tough opener that's a rematch of their 2014 Fed Cup battle won by Bencic.

Lucie Safarova won the Australian Open doubles title with Bethanie Mattek-Sands and arrives in Antwerp seeking her first singles win of the season. The 15th-ranked Czech will play either Mladenovic or Silvia Soler-Espinosa in her opener.

Behind every good party there's a good organizer.Former world No. 1 Kim Clijsters took time out from her duties as Antwerp tournament director to attend the party.

"The build-up has been really fun," Clijsters told WTATennis.com. "Being part of this side of tennis has taught me a lot. There are a lot of things you don't think about as a player, you just assume everything gets organized well and don't know all the hard work that goes into it. That's something that's definitely changed my perspective.

"It's really exciting to see everything we've discussed in meetings coming to life. "It's also exciting because I have a lot of variety in my days - communicating with the players, the WTA and of course the sponsors, and I can watch some tennis too. I really like having that variety."
